Rock sample preparation lab

In the rock sample preparation lab geological samples collected in the field are prepared for further laboratory analysis. The type of preparation required depends on both the type of analysis being performed as well as the character of the sample. The rock sample preparation lab therefore hosts tools with a variety of preparatory uses.

In the rock sample preparation lab, rock samples may be processed and prepared prior to further analysis. It is often necessary to reduce the size of the sample, some analyses require a smooth, polished surface, or it may be necessary to grind the rock to a fine powder.

The rock sample preparation lab hosts numerous tools for various methods of processing rock samples, including rock saws of various sizes, a ball mill and a jaw crusher. With these tools, rock samples can be cut and crushed into fine powders. Sieves are also available for separation of size fractions.

If you wish to use the rock sample preparation lab, please contact the lab coordinator for more information.
